Post Office

The post office might be the last place you would think of going gift shopping. But a second look around the post office just might reveal some interesting gift possibilities. Coin sets and stamps make terrific gifts, says Chris Grey, Canada Post's representative for retail business.

"The Millennium Collection Book has 68 stamps specifically circulated for the book," says Grey. "It's a good keepsake." The book is designed as the ultimate Year 2000 collectable. It contains a set of lithographed mint stamps which showcase a broad range of Canadian people, events and organizations which have helped define Canada as a nation. It has a limited edition of 200,000. You can also celebrate the end of the century with Canada Post's official millennium keepsake. It is presented in a specially designed metal collectors box embossed with the image of a beautiful dove. It is about the size of a CD and makes an ideal gift.

The millennium keepsake box contains three souvenir stamps each featuring a dove image, and exclusive medallion, a message from the chairman of Canada Post, and a pre-stamped international postcard for sending a message to family or friends. It also has a pre-stamped entry for Canada Post's Wonders of the World contest. More millennium products are available. The millennium official first day cover pack sells for only $2.99 and has a beautiful images of a dove on the cover.

Hologram uncut press sheets retail for $79.99 and feature uncut press sheets of the hologram stamp. Other souvenir stamp sheets and miniature panes of hologram, lithographed and engraved stamps make perfect gifts.

And for the children, there are piggy banks and coin boxes. Plush Pooh Bears are popular and T-shirts sell steadily. Grey says Canada Post has unlimited access to other gift ideas. "We can get anything the Canadian Mint makes," he says.

A 12-coin set has been a popular seller, says Grey. Canada Post is a relatively new player in the business of selling products. Business is increasing, says Grey.

"We've been doing pretty good," he says.
