Museum popular displays include various animals
Open since 1985 the Kinusayo Museum offers a window into the past of the Kinuso area
It’s the natural history of Kinuso and area, says Wendy Robinson, curator. Everything was brought in by people from the area.
Of the 3,000 items in its collection Robinson says approximately 75 per cent of those are on display at one time.
It’s getting to be a really nice collection.
Those touring the museum can expect to see displays on local business and commerce as well as some of the trading and trapping that was done in the past.
Their most popular displays though are the animals, explains Robinson adding the Great Plains Grizzly attracts a lot of attention.
They also have foxes, fawns, raccoons, an otter, a wolverine and various birds and mammals on exhibit including two baby skunks.
Just the babies though, the mother was to smelly, she says.
The museum is open from May to August, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year it had 1057 visitors which including various school groups. Admission costs are by donation.
Robinson says that somebody is always available by appointment to show people around if those times and dates aren’t convenient though, which includes out of season tours.
The museum is also looking at a new location, which would have the displays all on one floor, as well as having a Treaty 8 exhibit on hand.
